Why I ordered a red Nexus 5

When I made the decision that I was going to order an Android based phone, I knew right away that I would go with the Nexus 5. As someone who has no intentions of rooting or roming the phone, I wanted the best experience out of the box. I think the stock Android of the Nexus fits the bill. So when I started looking a couple of weeks ago, I was surprised to see the third color option. I was kind of intrigued by the bright red one. If you know me, you would know that loud and flashy are not what I’m about. But for some reason that red one still drew me in. However at the time, while red was shown, it was out of stock and not available to order. At that time, and my usual need to order stuff on impulse, I almost pulled the trigger on a black Nexus 5. Somehow I managed to fight the urge and held off for a week. When I checked the store at the end of last week, the red ones were available to order again (with a 2 – 3 week ship time). Done! Right then and there I ordered me a red, 32GB Nexus 5.

If you’re still reading this, you know I haven’t given a specific reason yet. Well, here it is. The color of the phone does not matter to me at all. In fact I always have my phone in a case anyways. But I thought when the time comes to sell it, maybe, just maybe there might be little more demand for a red one as the market won’t be as saturated as it is with the white and black ones. And maybe it will sell faster or maybe I will get a few more dollars because of it. Who know, but that is the reason.

In preparation for my Nexus 5

According to the Google page, my Nexus 5 won’t ship for 2 – 3 weeks. That gives me time to do some serious research. Most importantly, I want a case and screen protector to be installed right when I get it. Yesterday, I spent way too much time looking for cases. Nothing really stood out as the number 1, most popular case for this device. After all the reading I did, I narrowed it down to the Spigen Neo Hybrid Case and the Cruzerlite Bugdroid Circuit Case. Both seem like decent cases and fit what I want in a case. Then I came across this video for the Cruzerlite case, and that sealed it for me. I ordered the Cruzerlite Bugdroid Circuit Case from Amazon last night. Now to start looking at screen protector options.

The unthinkable has happened

I’ve done it, I’ve gone and ordered an Android based phone. A Nexus 5 to be specific.

I have 2 driving reason for this major decision. A) I feel Apple missed the boat by not releasing a larger screen iphone last year. (I want a slightly bigger screen). And B), I really want to move from my $100+/month verizon plan to something way more affordable. So, with this one purchase, I’m satisfying both needs.

I’m no Apple lover, but the iphone is where I started in the real smartphone world and am completely comfortable in it. Frankly, and this may come as a shock to you, but the Apple ecosystem works very well for me and my household. I use itunes as my media library, and own an iphone, 2 ipads, and 2 Apple TV’s. Plus my kids all have 4th gen ipods. Also the 2 AV recievers in my house support Airplay, and I use that feature A LOT! The way everything works together is quite impressive. I know there is a ton of itunes hate out there, but it works really well for me and has for years.

Odds are pretty good that Apple will release a larger iphone this year, but here’s the thing, It won’t be available on the alternate carriers right away (if at all). So if want a large screen now and want to pay less for service, Android is my only real option.

I have tons to say on this subject but don’t want this to be a ridiculously long post, so be sure to check back for more as this new chapter begins.

Help me pick a new WordPress theme for my company site

I’m looking for some opinions. One of my 2014 company goals is to learn a little bit about marketing in order to start increasing my business. I’m going to start with improving my website so my online presence looks good and provides some actual information. My objective this weekend is to choose and install a website new theme. Attached to this post are 4 photos. One is my current website (Ugly, broken images, not much info), and following it are 3 WordPress themes that I really like. Take a look at all the images and let me know which theme you like best via comment or message me.

Thanks so much!!

Not thrilled with Red Robin this morning

Anyone else been to the Kenosha Red Robin lately and thought their quality is going downhill? I’ve felt that way the last couple of visits, but last night was the icing on the cake. Our server, while not mean, just wasn’t friendly. Then they messed up my sons order…TWICE, making the exact same mistake both times. The real kicker is this morning while checking my bank accounts, I see not only my meal charge, but another charge from Red Robins for $75.84. Other than visiting with a manager when they open today, it will be a while before I go back.

Update:
Just got back from my visit with the manager (assistant manager actually), He told me there were other issues with some staff last evening and he wished he didn’t leave when he did. Also, that the incorrect charge was noticed last night and reversed, and I should see it drop from my account in a day. And while I wasn’t there looking for anything free, he gave me a $25 gift card for my inconveniences. Though it will still be awhile before I’ll go back.

Saris Cycle-On Pro Bike Rack

Saris Cycle-On Pro Bike Rack, originally uploaded by CDavisWI.

With the purchase of my new vehicle, I was determined to get a new bike rack. I wanted a hitch mount rack as dealing with the trunk mount style that I did last year was just a pain. I ended up going with a platform style hitch mount, just because they work a lot better with mountain bikes. They are heavier and pricier than standard hitch mount racks, but I’m hoping works well for us. Plus I can purchase a 2 bike add-on next year when I buy my girls bigger bikes. Once I start using it, I will post some thoughts on how it is working for us.
