Fundraiser – FL4TFEST Overland Adventure

I am participating in an event in about a week and a half that is a fundraiser for a couple of Wisconsin based charities.

This is a Subaru specific 3 day event called the FL4TFEST 2021 Overland Adventure. Approximately 30 Subaru owners will be adventuring on backroad trails through Wisconsin, Iowa, and Minnesota, and camping somewhere new each night.

Their goal is to raise $15,000 for 2 Wisconsin based charities.

The 2 receiving charities for this event are the Dane County Humane Society and the American Family Children’s Hospital.

I would love it if I could bring in at least $200 for the charities.

If you would like to donate, please visit this page and find my name (#12 – Chad Davis): https://register.cheesewheelinc.com/events/fl4tfest-donations/

Donations are done in increments of $5 (minimum amount). If you wanted to donate $20, you would simply change the quantity to 4

And if you don’t like me, but still would like to donate to the cause, just pick any other participants. ;)

Thank you for reading this far, and a very big thank you if you choose to donate.

A little back story about me and why I’m involved with this. Last November I bought a stock 2012 Subaru Forester from the online car sales vendor, Carvana. Over the last 10 months, I’ve been modding it to turn it in to the adventure mobile that it has become. Subarus in their native form are very capable, but I wanted something that could take me just a little bit further. This last week, I had my first real multi day adventure and was part a small group that traversed across the Upper Peninsula of MI on mostly backroads and camped in 3 unique locations. It was an incredible experience and completely justified all the work I did to the car (even though there was a bone stock Crosstrek that handled every obstacle we faced). The above event will be my second multi day event and I cannot wait to see what the roads less traveled bring!

Over the course of 2021, I have had a lot of day trip adventures around Wisconsin visiting many state parks, and I do share quite a few photos on my Instagram account, which can be found here, if interested: https://www.instagram.com/cdaviswi/

Be careful if the Kenosha News has your email address

Either the Kenosha News customer database was hacked or they sell customer info. I wouldn’t be surprised by either one. This is the second email I’ve received in last week from someone that has a malicious attachment. I know it’s from my Kenosha News account as I use custom email addresses for any service I sign up for. As you can see in the screenshot the email that it was sent to.

While you should practice safe email procedures all the time, just be extra diligent if the Kenosha News has your email.

And Facebook finally ruins Instagram

From the Instagram blog.

See the Moments You Care About First

MARCH 15, 2016
You may be surprised to learn that people miss on average 70 percent of their feeds. As Instagram has grown, it’s become harder to keep up with all the photos and videos people share. This means you often don’t see the posts you might care about the most.

To improve your experience, your feed will soon be ordered to show the moments we believe you will care about the most.

The order of photos and videos in your feed will be based on the likelihood you’ll be interested in the content, your relationship with the person posting and the timeliness of the post. As we begin, we’re focusing on optimizing the order — all the posts will still be there, just in a different order.

If your favorite musician shares a video from last night’s concert, it will be waiting for you when you wake up, no matter how many accounts you follow or what time zone you live in. And when your best friend posts a photo of her new puppy, you won’t miss it.

We’re going to take time to get this right and listen to your feedback along the way. You’ll see this new experience in the coming months.

My biggest complaint of Facebook itself is not seeing see the newest posts first. At the very least, give us the option to switch to chronological order.

A storage transient failure has occurred during content conversion

I recently completed an Exchange 2010 to 2016 migration. The last few days I’ve been getting word of quite a few users receiving NDRs. The NDR error was QUEUE Expired. I went straight to the queue and saw there were currently 12 messages there all with a last error of “A storage transient failure has occurred during content conversion”. I did eventually find a solution, and I normally don’t repost items I find in my day to day tech support life, but there wasn’t a ton of results for this error, and most weren’t relevant. But then I found the what I was looking for. This link had some Exchange Management Shell commands that allowed all the messages in the queue to send instantly

Link

Update [3/31/16]: This issue is not resolved for me. With the setting set to null or false, I get some messages stuck in the submission queue. If the TNEFEnabled is set to true, all mail sends fine, but certain recipients receive attachments as winmail.dat. So I’m still working on this one.

Update 2 [4/19/16]: I installed Cumulative Update 1 for Exchange 2016 almost a week ago and the issue appears to be resolved. I have not had a single message stuck in the Submission Queue.

Opting out of the Verizon Super Cookie

I recently went back to Verizon, and while listening to an episode of DTNS they mentioned how all Verizon customers are automatically opted in to their advertising program with a Unique Identifier Header, or super cookie. But they mentioned users can opt out of the program. While I believe it’s wrong to be  in the program automatically, at least there is a way to get out of it. That sent me on a google search to find the procedure. There certainly were plenty of hits for searching ‘opt out Verizon super cookie’, but they all linked to a VZW page that wouldn’t load for me. So I logged in to my account and search around until I found it.

Here’s the steps I took.

  • Sign in to your VZW account
  • Click on My Account and then Privacy Settings

There I found I was opted in to 3 programs that share my information in various ways. One by one, I changed the setting to Do Not Share and saved my changes.

For me, the direct link to this page is: https://nbillpay.verizonwireless.com/vzw/secure/setPrivacy.action

Operation Lawn 2015

I moved in to my new place in December of last year. I could not wait for spring to arrive as the previous owners took horrible care of this wonderful yard. Well, spring is here and operation lawn 2015 is under way. I expect it to take me a couple of years to get the lawn completely how I want it as I don’t have the money to simply remove the current turf, level out the top soil, and resod or reseed. I do have to work with what’s there.

I’ll start with some before pictures.

Growing my own pineapple

20140509-093631.jpg

So I discovered this idea on Pinterest. I twisted the top off of a pineapple and set it in a shallow dish of water. After a couple of weeks, I’m going to transfer it to a pot and see what happens. If it doesn’t die on me, supposedly I could have my very own pineapple in two years. Yeah, I know, that’ same long ass time, but I’m super curious if it will work. I’ll post updates periodically.

Help me pick a new WordPress theme for my company site

I’m looking for some opinions. One of my 2014 company goals is to learn a little bit about marketing in order to start increasing my business. I’m going to start with improving my website so my online presence looks good and provides some actual information. My objective this weekend is to choose and install a website new theme. Attached to this post are 4 photos. One is my current website (Ugly, broken images, not much info), and following it are 3 WordPress themes that I really like. Take a look at all the images and let me know which theme you like best via comment or message me.

Thanks so much!!
