2 gigs of Extreme CF love!

I forgot to mention this, but I recently purchased a new compact flash card for my camera. I went with a Sandisk Extreme in the capacity of 2 gigabytes. I will probably include the old 1 gig card with the 10D when I finally decide to sell it. Then I will hopefully pick up another 2 gig card. That should hold me over for a little while.

Wasn’t meant to be…..

Well, Fedora Core 4 was released yesterday, and just like every one of the test releases it failed to install on my Dell Dimension 4700. I can’t possibly be the only person on the face of the earth who runs Linux on a 4700, or am I? FC3 ran fine. And I’ve been running Ubuntu for the last couple of months. Ubuntu works so well, there’s really no reason to run a different distro, but I always like to try different stuff. Ubuntu would be perfect if I could just solve the Totem issue.

Chris hangs up his blogging hat

Chris, the developer of nerdsyndrome.com, a blog I’ve been reading for quite a while now has decided to call it quits.

From his mainpage:

I have made the difficult decision to discontinue work on my internet site Nerdsyndrome.com, as well as my personal blog. I have also decided to dismantle the site and remove it from the Internet. I want to thank the many people who have visited my site, and have sent me wonderful emails of encouragement, with kind words about the site! I really have appreciated your comments and I am really glad you have enjoyed reading some of my Linux articles, as well as my blog.

If you’ve never read any of his stuff, you can see some of it through the Internet Archive.

Good luck Chris in all future endevours.

Look at that sunset

I finally made the trek to Pewaukee for the monthly Milwaukee Photography Meetup, and it was well worth it. I’ve been wanting to go for the last two months, but something has always gotten in the way. And it’s over an hour drive to get there. But now that I’ve gone once, it will be easier to go again now that I now exactly where it is and how long it takes to get there.

The plans where to walk to the Pewaukee Lake lakefront for sunset shots, so we headed over there a little after 8pm with our camera’s and tripods. When we got there it was still fairly overcast and hazy. It wasn’t looking good for us. But we stuck it out and just kept waiting. Then slowly the skys started turning colors and became more magnificent as dusk wore on.

All my unprocessed shots can be seen here: http://www.kenoshaphotos.com/chad/06082005/

It is here! Welcome Sarge!

More tedious work complete

For some reason, when I converted from my home brewed blog to using wordpress, a lot of(probably more than 50%) of my old entries got tagged with a post date of May 13th 2003. To this day I’m not sure why, but I wasn’t happy with it. The problem was how was I suppose to know when I actually posted an entry?

Well, through the magic of the Internet Archive, I painstakenly went through those archived screenshots and cross referenced all posts prior to May 13th and modified there date here to match them to when they were actually posted. It took many hours and my eyes were killing me when I was done, but I’m extremely happy I did it. It means all posts are now accurate. I even fixed a lot of broken links while I was going through all those old entries.

I wasn’t sure how I was going to do it initially, so huraahhh for the Wayback Machine!

Shane Hmiel has been suspended indefinately

I consider myself to be a fairly big Nascar fan, but with all the other crap in my life I find it hard to keep up with all the goings on of Nascar. Meaning the things outside of the actual races.

Now, if you’ve been following the Busch series this year(something I’ve been fairly able to do), you’ll know that Shane Hmiel has been somewhat in the spotlight more than once and not the good spotlight.

I really have nothing against Hmiel, but I’ve been unimpressed by his over-aggressive style and lack of respect he was showing his fellow racers. Well today while reading some stuff on NOL, I see that Hmiel has been suspendedagain… for substance abuse. Maybe this really explains a lot. However this is his second time, and I feel it’s time for Nascar to basically ban him from the sport, or at least all their series. There’s no room for this, or the attitude he’s been sporting all season. It’s too bad, because he has talent and he was just wasting it away.
