Photos for contest submitted

Well, last Friday was the deadline for our newspapers photo contest. They were looking for photos to use in a calendar they release. I’m not sure how many photos they use, but if a photo is selected the winner gets $100 and obviously their photo gets published.

They allowed each entrant to submit 3 photos. I tried really hard to take 3 photos just for the contest, but I wasn’t happy with what I was getting. So only one shot was used and for the other 2 I went into the archives.

I’m not sure when the winner(s) will be announced, but if I hear any good news, I’ll be sure to post it.

This past weekend me and my son went to Jerry Smiths, which is a local produce place. They’re located out in the county and they have a little area with all those animals that you can feed. They also put on a pretty impressive display during haloween. Which they prepping for while we were out there.

First photos with the Canon 10D are up

First thing I noticed when I put the camera together was, this thing is huge. And it is. It also weighs quite a bit. I ordered the BiG-ED battery grip that also that showed up today along with my first(and only) lens. I took a few snapshots around the office just to get a feel for it, and then I headed down to the lake front where they’re setting up for a huge Harley festival tonight. I’m debating going back after work because it so hot and muggy out today. Click on the picture below to see all the pictures taken thus far.

I ordered a Canon 10D today. So much for waiting til the end of the year. I just really want to get learning a DSLR camera. I also ordered one lens for it as well. All should arrive in the middle of next week.

Anyone want to buy a peferctly good G3 with lots of accessories?

Concert Review: Styx

Let me start by saying that they’re be no means my favorite band. They’re actually a little before my time, but they do have some decent ‘classic’ songs. For starters, the show cost 5 bucks, how can you go wrong. The show kicked off promptly at 8:00 which was pretty amazing. Of course those old rockers got to be in bed before 11 so the show wrapped up at probably 10:30ish.

Let me just say, it was a great show. They rocked and didn’t miss a beat. Come Sail Away was by far the best song they performed. And if your wondering, Mr Roboto was part of a melody of songs and only lasted about 15 seconds.

I took about 130 pictures of which maybe 25% are somewhat usable. Because of the slower shutter speed I was running alot of pictures were blurry and quite a few have over exposed elements that ruined the picture. Below is a sampling. This weeked I’ll create a gallery for all the good pictures.

In my ever growing quest of photography knowledge, I find myself spending quite a bit of time at various photography forums. It consumes a lot of my free as of late, but I’m learning a lot from all the reading I’m doing.

But by far, one of the best rewards of all this time spent is viewing the online galleries of all the other hobbyists(and pros) out there.

For example, just today I discovered this guys photo album from his recent trip to Hawaii. All his shots are outstanding. Take a look for yourself to see some beautiful shots from around the islands.
