I was reading through the comments on the Fark post about the new satellite imagery on Google maps and a lot folks were putting up links to landmarks. The one I found most interesting was what is known as the Airplane graveyard located outside of Tucson, AZ. So interesting in fact that I just had to find out more about it.
The graveyard is officially located at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base and is known as the Aerospace Maintenance and Regeneration Center(AMARC). I found a nice description of what this place is about, here. There are some amazing pictures of just how big this place is and how many aircraft this place has. They even offer tours of the graveyard.
I’m going to put this on my ‘places I want to visit’ list as I am just amazed by it.
