O’Reillys Safari Bookshelf Saves The Day

Well, that may be a slight exaggeration, but it did come in handy last night.

I spent most of my online time yesterday searching idea’s on how to build a specific function for my blogging software, with very little success. I found some stuff, but it just didn’t work very well, or at all. But I came across a few posts of people referencing ‘PHP Cookbook‘ as having an example of the exact functionality I was looking for. Well, I thought I own that book, but it was at work.

So late last night, I decided to search for that book to see if it’s the one I had, and if so I was going to run to work and get it. Needless to say, it was not the same book, the one I own is called PHP Recipes.

Well, since it’s an O’Reilly book it’s also part of their Safari Online stuff, which would allow you to view the entire book online. I was going to sign up for the free 14 day trial but they required a credit card to try it out, which I didn’t have handy since I’m doing all this while in bed. But fortunately, they show the first few paragraphs of all the chapters without even signing up. And that was enough for me to look at the code and modify to my needs, and it actually works. Whoo Hoo!!! What a great resource. I think I will sign up now, what a great resource.
